Who cares about language?
Software languages are very important these days. When you hear that a developer with a specialized skillset (blockchain) is commanding more than a hedge fund manager and getting it, then you know that something has drastically changed in how businesses are starting to think.
But here’s the thing – digital businesses don’t really care what software languages you know. They aren’t shopping for 50 of this or 20 of that. If you listen to their language they’re asking to know how software is being developed. What are the engineering practices in play? Why does it make sense to build a product in one way over another?
“Nike doesn’t want to make products for everyone – they want to make products for champions.” – Simon Sinek
Their questions are about the thinking and approach and not necessarily the development language even though that matters.
Consider
Outsourcing software development to save money is the wrong goal. Collaborating with a partner who understands product engineering and cares about your customer will result in greater value.
